PAINTINGS PAINTING OBJECTIVE: Stephen defines himself as traditional naturalist. His need to paint the natural world stems from a lifetime love of the outdoors and a wish to keep it fresh in one's memory. Studying and observing nature, he brings to the viewer's attention the color, form, and beauty in nature's design. Each time Stephen steps out into nature, another impression is made in every-changing world that he is compelled to capture. His technical proficiency is capturing the subject and the essence of the place is evident in each painting. Stephen feels bringing the variety in colors, forms, and details of the subjects to his artwork. Personal observation or studying wildlife mounts is a very important part of his process. In his artwork he portrays his emotions and feelings toward his subject. He strives to lift the viewer to a heightened experience of appreciation for nature's grandeur, thus creating the opportunity to bring one's own experience to the art.
